TeamSpecWishlist on Steam

An update to TeamSpec has been released. The major changes include:

New

  • Gibs. A player killed by an explosion comes apart. The body can be cut at any of thirteen joints (each wrist, elbow, shoulder, ankle, knee and hip, plus the neck), and the joints nearest the blast are the likeliest to go. Most explosions take off ten of the thirteen; a few take almost all of them. Each piece flies its own way, every cut end is capped with a bloody stump and a bone, the body bursts into red mist, and the clothes come off with the blast (the hat flies off on its own). Everyone sees the same cuts and the same throw, including the kill cam and replays.
  • Beheading. A fully charged sniper headshot that kills takes the head off, and the hat pops away with it. A headshot on less charge kills with the head on.
  • Shattering. A shot, swing or explosion that kills a player who is frozen solid breaks them into pieces of ice, with the sound of it. Ice pieces do not bleed.
  • Corpses stay. Every body now falls and lies where it died for about 15 seconds, and never disappears while its player is still dead. Shots, melee swings and explosions push bodies and pieces around, the hits that killed someone throw their body (a headshot tips it over backward), pieces bleed where they land, and bodies sound off when they hit the ground. Gibs have their own landing sounds.
  • Buildings break apart. A destroyed sentry, dispenser or teleporter breaks into bent, broken pieces of itself in its team colors, which bounce, settle and fade, with a new sound. Blowing a building up from the console does the same.
  • Discord presence. Discord now shows "Playing on <server name>" with the TeamSpec logo, a timer and the server's player count, and a Join button that takes your friends straight to your server through Steam. It works from the Discord app running on your PC with no sign-in.
  • Discord accounts. Link or unlink your Discord account in Settings, under General, or in the Social menu. The Social menu now lists your Discord friends beneath your Steam friends.
  • Discord messages. Type /discord in chat to pick a Discord friend and send direct messages, in the same chat window as everything else. History loads when you open a conversation, edits and deletes show up, the window tells you the conversation syncs with Discord, and attachments show a placeholder with a link to open them in Discord. Discord messages are not saved to TeamSpec's chat log.
  • New loadout triangle. The spec triangle in the loadout window is redrawn to match the website's: one cell for every whole point, a thicker outline, dashed lines from the handle to each corner, and a handle that takes on the color of your build.

Changed

  • What you see when you are shot now matches the server. Hitscan weapons (the minigun, the shotgun and the rest) now send what each shot actually hit along with the shot, so everyone draws a round on the player it hit and nowhere else. Before, strafing under fire could show the rounds passing beside you into the wall, with wall impacts and sounds behind you, and a third player watching a runner get shot could see misses. This applies to what the victim sees, other players, spectators, the kill cam and replays.
  • Sentry rounds now end on the player they hit when you watch them, instead of sometimes running on into the wall behind.
  • Crouching makes you taller. The crouched body is now 1.1 meters tall instead of 0.91, so a gap that you could only just crouch through before may be too low now.
  • A failed chat message now says why ("You are not in a party.", "Could not send: the TeamSpec service is unreachable.") instead of a general complaint.
  • The HUD now visually rounds up health to 1 if its under 1.

Balance

  • Flamethrower afterburn now reaches full strength after 1 second in the stream (was 2 seconds).

Fixed

  • Blood marks left on your body no longer carry over into your next life when you respawn quickly.
  • The Basher's tentacle arm now follows the hand it leaves from, and no longer casts a doubled shadow in third person.
  • A burning body no longer lights the room twice once it is dead.
